Shared Island launches €26m sustainability fund
The Taoiseach Micheál Martin, alongside Ministers Peter Burke and Caoimhe Archibald, has unveiled a €26 million Shared Island Sustainability Challenge Fund designed to drive decarbonisation in industrial manufacturing sectors across Ireland and Northern Ireland. This fund, part of the Shared Island Enterprise scheme, is a collaborative effort between Enterprise Ireland, Invest Northern Ireland, and InterTradeIreland, aiming to support pioneering sustainability projects in areas such as flexible electrification, hard-to-abate climate technologies, water efficiency, and circular economy practices.

Co-funded by the Government of Ireland’s Shared Island Fund, the €26 million allocation is split equally between the two jurisdictions, with Invest Northern Ireland and Enterprise Ireland each contributing €3 million within their respective regions. Building on the success of the previous €20 million Shared Island Sustainability Capital Grant awards, which leveraged €63.5 million in private investment for decarbonisation, this new fund seeks to accelerate innovation and competitiveness in the manufacturing sector.

Key officials emphasised the fund’s role in advancing cross-border collaboration and economic growth. Taoiseach Martin highlighted the ambition to position the island as a leader in sustainable industrial processes, while Ministers Burke and Archibald underscored the fund’s potential to future-proof manufacturing and boost productivity. Executives from Invest NI, Enterprise Ireland, and InterTradeIreland reiterated their commitment to fostering innovative, first-of-their-kind projects that will reduce emissions and reinforce the island’s low-carbon economy. Eligible businesses can find further details and application guidance on the Invest Northern Ireland and Enterprise Ireland websites.
