Communities across north Dublin are set to experience a more reliable water supply following a significant milestone in Uisce Éireann's North City Arterial Main project, with James Larkin Road now reopened to traffic after extensive works.
This €25 million initiative involves laying 5.5 kilometres of new high-pressure trunk water main, designed to reinforce the existing water network and ensure a stronger, more direct supply route from reservoir to tap. So far, over 1.9 kilometres of pipeline have been installed, reducing the risk of supply interruptions to approximately 160,000 households and businesses.
The upgrade forms part of ongoing investment efforts to futureproof Dublin’s ageing water infrastructure, originally designed for 500,000 people but now supporting almost 2 million. While the James Larkin Road has reopened, work continues on Thornville Road, Greendale Road, and Kilbarrack Road, with traffic managed carefully to minimise disruption. Residents can register for real-time updates via Uisce Éireann’s free text alert service. This project is a component of the wider Water for Growth programme, which allocates over €500 million to regional water improvements over the next decade.
