Ireland launches first national bioeconomy strategy
Ireland has taken a landmark step in sustainable development with the launch of its first National Bioeconomy Strategy, BioScale 2030, at the Global Bioeconomy Summit held in Dublin. The event gathered over 1,500 delegates worldwide, showcasing Ireland’s commitment to transforming renewable biological resources into innovative, climate-friendly businesses and markets.

The strategy focuses on leveraging the country’s strengths in agriculture, forestry, marine industries, and research to create new economic opportunities while supporting climate action and circularity. Minister Martin Heydon emphasised the need to connect Ireland’s abundant biological assets with research and innovation to build value chains that benefit farmers, foresters, and fishers alike.

Key targets within BioScale 2030 include enhancing sustainable biomass supply chains, developing pilot and scale-up infrastructure, improving access to finance, fostering markets for biobased products, and strengthening skills and regulation. With coordinated government oversight, this initiative aims to position Ireland at the forefront of a competitive, climate-neutral bioeconomy benefiting communities across the country.
