Teagasc leads bioeconomy innovation at Dublin summit
Teagasc has taken centre stage at the Global Bioeconomy Summit 2026, held at the Convention Centre Dublin from 20 to 21 October, as part of Ireland’s EU Council Presidency. This premier international forum assembled policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and civil society representatives worldwide to explore sustainable economic growth through bioeconomy strategies.

Ireland’s selection as host reflects its growing global reputation for innovation in bioeconomy policy and circular economy solutions. The summit attracted over 1,500 participants, providing a vital platform to deepen knowledge exchange, forge partnerships, and accelerate the shift towards sustainable bio-based industries.

Professor Frank O’Mara, Director of Teagasc, emphasised the opportunity to highlight Ireland’s achievements and ambitions in this sector. Teagasc’s team, including researchers such as Dr Órlaith Ní Choncubhair and Professor Brijesh Tiwari, contributed extensively by presenting cutting-edge projects like the zero-waste marine biorefineries under the AIMBIO initiative. A notable site visit to the Teagasc Ashtown Food Research Centre allowed delegates to witness firsthand the transformation of biological resources into high-value sustainable materials. Throughout the summit, Teagasc reaffirmed its commitment to advancing climate-smart, circular bioeconomy innovations that support rural development and economic competitiveness.
