Áras an tSáile, a prominent Government office building in Renmore, Galway, officially reopened on 24 August 2026 after undergoing a comprehensive €11.467 million energy retrofit. This upgrade has transformed the facility into a more energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable workplace while maintaining its operational status throughout the renovation.
The refurbishment included significant improvements such as enhanced insulation for walls and roofs, replacement of windows and glazing, installation of a new heating and ventilation system, solar panels, and electric vehicle charging points. These interventions have collectively reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions, raising the building’s energy performance considerably.
Minister for Defence Helen McEntee and Minister of State Kevin Moran praised the project’s success, highlighting the collaborative effort required to complete the work in phases without disrupting essential public services. The retrofit supports Ireland’s climate action goals and forms part of the wider Public Sector Buildings' Energy Retrofit Programme under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
