Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, announced that more than 2,000 affordable housing supports were delivered in the first quarter of 2026, marking a 76% rise compared to the same period last year. This growth builds on the strong progress made throughout 2025, bringing total affordable supports delivered since 2021 to over 24,000.

The Starter Homes for Purchase Scheme recorded a significant increase, with 287 homes delivered in Q1 2026—a 122% rise from the previous year. Since its introduction in 2022, this scheme has helped over 2,700 first-time buyers and new homeowners access affordable properties through local authorities, Approved Housing Bodies, and the Land Development Agency.

Cost Rental housing also experienced substantial growth, with 472 new homes delivered in the quarter, reflecting a 317% increase compared to Q1 2025. Additionally, the First Home Scheme saw a 63% rise in supports drawn down, while the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant paid out 816 grants, a 29.3% increase, aiding in the regeneration of towns and rural communities across Ireland.
