The new two‑storey Stillorgan Library opened on 30 September 2026, offering expanded spaces for reading, learning, creativity and community engagement. The modern facility, situated in St Laurence’s Park, will double the size of the former building and provide flexible study rooms, meeting spaces, public computers, exhibition areas and an outdoor courtyard.
The opening ceremony was attended by Cllr Barry Saul, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire‑Rathdown County Council, Minister Jerry Buttimer, Minister of State for Rural and Community Development, Chief Executive Frank Curran, County Librarian Catherine Gallagher and a host of local councillors and dignitaries. Sauls praised the library as a “place where children discover a love of reading, where students can learn and thrive, where creativity is nurtured and where people of all ages can come together.” The project, funded with €2.5 million from successive Department library capital programmes, was part of the council’s long‑term vision for the regeneration of St Laurence’s Park.
Stillorgan Library will be open to the public from Thursday 1 October, offering extended opening hours through the forthcoming My Open Library service, which will increase weekly access from 51 to 98 hours. The library will serve a wide catchment area, including Stillorgan, Mount Merrion, Kilmacud, Leopardstown and neighbouring communities, and will support the continued growth of Stillorgan as a vibrant district centre.
