Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown prepares to host Open House Dublin festival
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown will take centre stage as part of Open House Dublin 2026, offering a diverse programme of free events that invite people to discover the buildings, neighbourhoods, and heritage that make the county unique. Running from 10 to 18 October, Ireland’s largest architecture festival will feature more than 200 free events across the capital under this year's fitting theme, Dublin is Living. The local showcase opens on Saturday 10 October at County Hall with practical sessions on energy upgrades, guiding residents through SEAI grants, retrofitting, and smart meters to foster greener communities.

The packed schedule features family-friendly walking tours, including an Architrek excursion in Dún Laoghaire and a special celebration marking Loughlinstown's 50th birthday. Cultural highlights include an Open Table conversation led by academic Dr Lorcan Sirr at dlr LexIcon, a self-directed mobile sound-art experience titled Sleepertown, and a two-day community think-in focusing on arts and heritage. Locals can also explore remarkable architectural gems such as the Carnegie Library, the historic Obelisk on Killiney Hill, and the revitalised spaces at George's Place.

County Architect Andrée Dargan emphasised that good architecture enriches everyday life by fostering vibrant, sustainable, and connected neighbourhoods. While all festival events are entirely free of charge, advance booking is recommended for many activities. Full details, timetables, and registration links are available on the official website.
