Commuters across Ireland face significant travel disruptions over the coming weekends due to essential engineering works affecting both Iarnród Éireann rail services and the Luas Red Line. Passengers travelling on the rail network and tram lines are urged to check timetables carefully, as a series of line improvement projects will introduce bus substitutions, altered departures, and partial closures throughout late September.
For the weekend of 19th and 20th September, engineering works between Kildare and Portlaoise will impact Galway, Westport, Cork, Tralee, and Limerick services, with many routes relying on combined train and bus transfers. Simultaneously, the Luas Red Line will experience a partial closure between Red Cow and Tallaght or Saggart, with trams operating only between The Point or Connolly and Red Cow, supported by replacement bus services running approximately every fifteen minutes.
Further engineering works are scheduled from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th September between Heuston and Hazelhatch, as well as Ballybrophy and Thurles, resulting in numerous cancellations, time deferrals, and direct bus transfers.
