The National Transport Authority (NTA) has launched three significant public consultations to gather input on proposed reforms designed to strengthen consumer protections, increase transparency, and aid the transition towards a greener Small Public Service Vehicle (SPSV) sector.
This initiative aligns with the commitments set out in the SPSV Regulatory Action Plan 2026–2028, which strives to update the regulatory framework for taxis, hackneys, and limousines amid a rapidly changing market. The consultations cover the regulation of dispatch operators, vehicle signage and advertising standards, and measures encouraging the decarbonisation of the SPSV fleet.
Kevin O’Brien, Director of Transport Regulation at the NTA, emphasised the importance of these reforms for passengers and industry stakeholders alike. He highlighted that the proposals aim to improve fare transparency, bolster consumer complaint procedures, and ensure SPSV services remain safe, accessible, and reliable. The consultations will remain open until 4 December 2026 for vehicle signage and decarbonisation topics, while feedback on dispatch operator regulations will be accepted until 18 December 2026. Interested parties can access consultation documents and submit their views on the official NTA consultation portal.
