Irish Coast Guard orders 38 new rescue vessels
The Irish Coast Guard has awarded contracts to Zodiac Milpro to design, build and deliver 38 new search and rescue vessels as part of a major fleet renewal programme under the Stewardship – Leading Together Transformation Programme.

This investment includes 21 Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) and 17 Inshore Rescue Boats (IRBs), which will be distributed to Coast Guard units across Ireland. These vessels are purpose-built to meet the rigorous demands of modern maritime rescue operations and will enhance both capability and reliability in challenging sea conditions.

With an estimated value of approximately €14 million, the programme reflects a strong commitment to improving Ireland’s maritime search and rescue services. Deliveries are expected to commence in 2027 and continue in phases until 2031. The design process involved direct input from Coast Guard volunteers and staff, ensuring the vessels meet operational needs based on frontline experience. The Office of Government Procurement facilitated the complex procurement process, combining procurement expertise with operational knowledge to secure the contracts successfully.
