HSE conference celebrates system-wide patient partnership
The 4th Annual HSE Patient Partnership conference took place on 15 October at Croke Park, bringing together over 300 attendees to share inspiring stories and best practices centred on collaborative healthcare. Under the theme “From Islands of Partnership to System-wide Practice and Policy,” the event emphasised how patients, service users, families, carers, and healthcare professionals work together to improve health and social care services across Ireland.

The conference featured sessions addressing diverse topics such as population health equity, digital health decision-making, Traveller mental health, disability services, cancer support, community participation, and integrated service delivery. It also marked Lived Experience Day, recognising the invaluable knowledge and expertise that lived experience brings to the design and governance of health services.

Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill praised the progress made in embedding meaningful partnerships throughout the system, urging for such collaboration to become standard practice rather than isolated initiatives. HSE CEO Anne O’Connor highlighted the importance of lived experience in shaping accessible and responsive services, while patient partner Mary VasseghI emphasised that partnership is essential as patients possess insights crucial to effective healthcare governance and policy. Attendees viewed over 50 poster presentations demonstrating how partnership identifies gaps, enhances communication, and aligns services with people’s needs.
