The Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk Management Committee convened on 1st September 2026 to assess the latest developments in the restoration project. A detailed presentation by Tetra Tech Consultants Ltd outlined the progress made since the project’s inception, with a particular focus on the tendering process for a rope access contractor now concluded. The preferred contractor awaits formal appointment, while comprehensive safety documentation, including method statements and risk assessments, is currently under review.
Ecological surveys, which began on 8th May 2026, have now been finalised for the summer season. Winter bird surveys are scheduled to commence in October, with works anticipated to start in mid to late September, pending the contractor’s confirmation. Engagement with Iarnród Éireann regarding railway-adjacent work continues to progress smoothly, alongside ongoing collaboration with the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) to facilitate these critical inspections.
On the Greystones side, summer ecological surveys have also been completed, with winter surveys planned for October subject to landowner consent. Discussions centred on the selection and design of potential inland routes, involving planning, environmental assessments, and engineering design. To streamline understanding, the Committee agreed to produce a flowchart outlining the project’s critical path. Chairperson Councillor Erika Doyle emphasised the Committee’s united commitment to reopening the Cliff Walk safely and sustainably, acknowledging the public’s frustrations while stressing the necessity of thorough environmental and safety assessments under European and national legislation.
