Local representatives and council officials recently met with senior Garda leadership to review the impressive progress achieved under Operation Meacán, a high-intensity policing initiative tackling the unlawful use of scramblers, e-scooters, and electric bikes in criminal activities. An Cathaoirleach Councillor Barry Saul, Chief Executive Frank Curran, and members of the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Local Community Safety Partnership gathered with Chief Superintendent David Kennedy and regional superintendents to discuss the crackdown.
Recent enforcement efforts across the Dublin Metropolitan Region Eastern area have led to the confiscation of numerous scrambler bikes alongside 36 vehicles, nearly €140,000 worth of illicit drugs, and over €10,000 in cash. Gardaí also arrested 20 teenagers aged between 16 and 19 for offences linked to illegal vehicle use, including robbery, dangerous driving, burglary tool possession, and drug supply. Additionally, Operation Táirge has seen more than 40 individuals brought before the District Court to face charges regarding organised retail theft.
