Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD, announced the EU Fertiliser Exceptional Aid Scheme on 13 October, allocating €46.2 million to support farmers impacted by rising fertiliser prices linked to the Middle East crisis.
Eligible farmers must be registered on the National Fertiliser Database (NFD), have submitted their 2026 BISS application, and base their payment claims on fertiliser purchases from the 2024/25 season. Support ranges from a minimum of 2.5 tonnes to a maximum of 100 tonnes, with payments calculated at €40 per tonne and a minimum payment of €100.
Farmers are advised to verify their sales data on the NFD via MyAgFood.ie by 23 October to ensure accuracy. Those missing purchase records should contact their fertiliser merchant promptly, as merchants are responsible for recording sales. Farmers not yet registered on the NFD must also register by this date to qualify for the scheme. Additional details and terms are available on the Department of Agriculture’s official website.
