Leitrim GAA clubs to launch new wellbeing boards
The Health Service Executive (HSE) West and North West, in partnership with Mental Health Ireland, Leitrim GAA, and Leitrim Sports Partnership, are set to unveil new Health & Wellbeing Boards at GAA clubs throughout County Leitrim. These boards will list vital mental health supports and services, aiming to raise awareness and provide clear information within communities.

The official launch will take place on 18 October at Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada, coinciding with half-time during the Intermediate Final. This collaborative effort is aligned with Ireland’s Connecting for Life 2026–2035 strategy, which emphasises a whole-of-society approach to reduce suicide and self-harm through cooperation among individuals, communities, NGOs, and government bodies.

Donal Gallagher, HSE Resource Officer for Suicide Prevention, highlighted the importance of this partnership, noting it strengthens community responsiveness to mental health needs. Emer McFadden of Mental Health Ireland praised GAA clubs as central community hubs ideal for sharing support messages. Bernie Mulligan Dolan, Chairperson of Leitrim GAA Health & Wellbeing Committee, stressed the role clubs play in fostering care on and off the pitch. Enda Lyons from Leitrim Sports Partnership echoed the sentiment, hoping the boards will encourage wellbeing and mutual support across the county. This initiative builds on 14 years of Mental Health Ireland’s successful outreach and aims to create lasting resources for all residents.

For more information and updates, details will be available on official websites and community channels.
