Donegal GAA clubs champion trusted adult role for youths
Forty Donegal GAA clubs recently came together at a special event in Ballybofey to celebrate the dedicated individuals who quietly transform the lives of local children and young people. The landmark gathering showcased a collaborative new awareness video developed by the HSE alongside regional partners, designed to shed light on the often unseen impact of parental substance use while championing the vital concept of a trusted adult.

Developed as an educational resource for professional, sporting, and community settings, the video emphasises hope, resilience, and the protective influence of consistent mentors. Dr Niall Muldoon, Ombudsman for Children, officially launched the project during an afternoon session attended by health, safeguarding, and community professionals. The evening portion honoured forty club nominees who embody these supportive qualities, alongside a special award presented to Kevin Mills for his longstanding dedication to community wellbeing.

Organisers and club leaders expressed immense pride in the community response, outlining future ambitions to extend these protective networks into schools and other sporting organisations throughout the county. The new educational resource is available to view on the official YouTube channel, offering communities a practical tool to foster belonging and positive mental health for the younger generation.
