Communities across Cork city and county are coming together to mark National Breastfeeding Week, with a diverse schedule of free events taking place until 7 October 2026. Local venues in towns such as Carrigaline, Ballincollig, Glanmire, Cobh, Fermoy, Newmarket, Midleton, Mallow, Charleville, Bantry, Macroom and Bandon will host welcoming activities designed to connect new parents and expectant families with essential local resources.
The initiative, guided by the theme 'Every Step Forward: Strengthening Support for Babies and Families', highlights the importance of comprehensive care. Throughout the week-long programme, participants will benefit from expert-led sessions featuring specialists from the HSE South West Happy Talk programme, physiotherapists, public health nurses, lactation consultants, dietitians, and community midwives.
Organisers have arranged an array of engaging workshops, including breastfeeding support groups, early feeding clinics, baby massage demonstrations, tummy time sessions, and informative talks on infant communication and mental health. Families seeking further guidance can reach out directly to Sheila Lucey, Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Infant Feeding Specialist, on 087 6635924, or Mary King, Infant Feeding Specialist, on 086 7871850.
