Residents of Carrigaline and the surrounding areas are being encouraged to attend a special awareness evening dedicated to building more inclusive communities. Scheduled for Wednesday, 30 September, the event will run from 7pm to 9pm at the Carrigaline Community Complex, providing a platform for locals to learn how they can better support those affected by dementia.
Facilitated by Dementia Care Co-ordinator Bernadette Horgan Edmead, the programme features expert insights from Advanced Nurse Practitioner Gemma McCarthy and Consultant Geriatrician Dr Tim Dukelow. The speakers will focus on the transformative power of community understanding, highlighting how practical support allows individuals to remain connected and confident within their own neighbourhoods. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the South Cork City and County Dementia Inclusive Alliance to strengthen practices in Carrigaline, Kinsale, and Bandon.
Beyond the presentations, the evening will serve as an opportunity for attendees to learn about upcoming training programmes scheduled for later in 2026. With over 64,000 people currently living with dementia in Ireland, the event underscores the importance of collective action in creating supportive environments. Further details regarding registration and future training sessions are available on the official HSE website.
