Ireland to host major European political summits
Ireland will host the European Political Community (EPC) meeting on Thursday, 12th November 2026, marking the largest-ever gathering of European Heads of State and Government in the country. Approximately 50 leaders, alongside officials from European and international organisations, will convene at the Convention Centre Dublin, with a formal dinner scheduled at the National Gallery of Ireland that evening. The following day, Friday, 13th November, an informal meeting of EU Heads of State or Government will take place at the same venue, attended by EU Member States' leaders and the Presidents of both the European Council and European Commission.

To ensure the safety of all attendees, An Garda Síochána will implement the most extensive policing and security operation in the history of the State. This operation will begin incrementally from Tuesday, 10th November, intensifying through the summit days. Security measures include cordons with barriers and no-parking restrictions around the Convention Centre and National Gallery, significant road closures, and restricted access in Dublin city centre, particularly around North Wall Quay, Samuel Beckett Bridge, and Merrion Square. Traffic management will involve diversions and additional Garda patrols, especially near Dublin Airport and Casement Aerodrome, where leaders will arrive and depart.

While An Garda Síochána aims to reduce disruption, the public should anticipate delays and changes to traffic flows and public transport services between 10th and 13th November, especially in Dublin city centre. LUAS services will operate normally on 10th November but will be limited near the 3Arena on 12th and 13th November, with special services provided after events. The Gardaí urge residents, businesses, and travellers to plan ahead, allow extra time for journeys, and follow official guidance throughout the period. Continuous updates will be provided by An Garda Síochána to keep the public informed during these unprecedented events.
