Cross-border art and climate project wins national accolade

Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark and acclaimed artist AlanJames Burns recently claimed the prestigious Irish Life Creativity in the Community Award at the 34th Business to Arts Awards. This accolade honours their pioneering cross-border initiative, Divergently Together, which championed neurodivergent and disabled voices in local climate action and environmental stewardship across counties Cavan, Fermanagh and Tyrone.
Developed in collaboration with Cavan County Council and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, the initiative delivered a rich programme of creative workshops, accessible resources, and sensory-friendly visitor guides. These practical improvements transformed how natural heritage sites engage with the public, ensuring that environmental decision-making remains open and welcoming to all communities.
Reaching upwards of 45,000 people through extensive community outreach, the project demonstrated the profound impact of artistic collaboration in tackling modern social and environmental challenges. Key figures praised the initiative for proving that sustainability efforts achieve their greatest strength when every individual is given the opportunity to contribute meaningfully.
