Local jokesmiths and charismatic storytellers are being given the ultimate chance to shine as the Carlow Comedy Festival prepares to return for its second year. Organisers have officially opened applications for a unique opening-night showcase event, where eight brave participants will step into the spotlight to deliver their very first stand-up routines. Zero prior stage experience is required, making this an inclusive celebration of everyday wit and local humour across the region.
To ensure these novice performers are stage-ready, renowned Irish comedian Karl Spain will provide expert mentorship and coaching. The mentorship journey will culminate on 3 December 2026 at The Tower in Dinn Ri, where the chosen few will perform live to kick off the expanded four-day festival. Spanning 14 distinct venues across Carlow, Tullow, and Bagenalstown, the festival promises an unforgettable celebration of laughter that will also raise money for charity.
Local authorities have praised the initiative for championing community spirit and boosting winter trade throughout the county.
