The spirit of Oíche Chultúir was brought to life in Bray last Friday as Her Excellency Ana Laura Cachaza, the Ambassador of Argentina to Ireland, visited the Holy Redeemer Youth Parish Centre. Accompanied by Deputy Head of Mission Nicolàs Vidal, the diplomats experienced a captivating Argentine Tango event led by local residents Lucía Seva and Gerry Roche, both distinguished academicians from the National Tango Academy of Argentina.
Attendees were treated to a multifaceted programme that featured a photographic exhibition showcasing the vibrant streets of Buenos Aires, alongside introductory dance workshops. The evening concluded with a traditional milonga, a social gathering that emphasised the elegance and communal joy inherent in Argentine heritage. This visit served as a poignant reminder of the shared artistic traditions that continue to flourish between Ireland and Argentina.
Supported by the Arts Council and the Wicklow County Council Arts Office, the event formed part of a broader success story for Culture Night 2026, which saw thousands participate in over 50 gatherings across the county. Reflecting on the festivities, Cathaoirleach Cllr. Dr. Caroline Winstanley and Chief Executive Emer O’Gorman both praised the community-led initiative for its role in fostering creativity, diversity, and meaningful international connections throughout the region.
