Six Limerick clubs battle for hurling glory
The Limerick Senior Hurling Championship narrows to six teams after a dramatic final round of fixtures. Four clubs secured quarter-final spots while two were relegated from the top tier.

The final round of the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship took place last weekend, delivering a dramatic conclusion to the group stage. Champions Na Piarsaigh joined Kilmallock in the last four after a thrilling 2-21 to 2-18 victory over Ballybrown. Goals from Peter Casey and David Dempsey, coupled with crucial points from Keith Dempsey, Tommie Grimes and the Caherdavin club’s defence, secured their progression to the quarter-finals. Ballybrown’s hopes faded despite Luke O’Connor’s two goals, as Na Piarsaigh’s late free from Conor Hanley-Clarke sealed a fifth consecutive win on the bounce for the Balbec side.
Doon and Monaleen also secured quarter-final berths, with Doon overwhelming Ahane by 2-29 to 1-14. Ahane’s relegation to the intermediate grade for 2027 was confirmed after they played over half the match with 14 men. Monaleen, despite a narrow 0-22 to 1-18 defeat to Kilmallock, edged ahead of Ballybrown on scoring difference to claim third place. The Balbec side’s late winner came from Hanley-Clarke, who converted his third free in stoppage time to extend their unbeaten run.
In Group 2, Adare and Mungret St. Paul’s claimed the remaining quarter-final spots after tight battles. Adare, led by Limerick stars Cian Lynch, Aaron Gillane and Diarmuid Byrnes, suffered a 10-point loss to Newcastle West but still finished second ahead of Patrickswell. Mungret maintained their 100 per cent record with a 2-23 to 2-15 win over Garryspillane, goals from Liam Lynch and Fintan Fitzgerald proving decisive. The quarter-finals will take place on 26 and 27 September, with semi-finals scheduled for 10 and 11 October.
