Young Kildare authors launch their own superhero book
Six talented students from St Raphael’s Special School have unveiled a vibrant new anthology titled Superhero Adventures. This inclusive project was nurtured by the local library service to celebrate the boundless creativity of these young writers.

A remarkable collection of stories and illustrations has been brought to life by six students from St Raphael’s Special School in Celbridge. Shane Tipper, Jack Duff, Grigore Rotaru, Tami Mundi, Chloe Cagney, and Evan Gardiner collaborated to produce Superhero Adventures, a project that highlights their unique voices and artistic flair. Under the expert mentorship of author Emma-Jane Leeson and illustrator Alan Nolan, each student crafted an imaginative tale that showcases their personal vision of heroism.
The initiative grew from the Great Read Ventures Book Club, an inclusive venture established in late 2025 following a partnership between Down Syndrome Ireland and Celbridge Library. Since its inception, the club has provided a welcoming space for teenagers to engage with literature, art, and games, fostering a community built on laughter and shared learning. The project has garnered significant praise for its commitment to accessibility and the empowerment of young creative minds within the local area.
During the launch event, Cathaoirleach Cllr David Trost praised the students for their significant achievement, describing the book as a true celebration of imagination and inclusion. Executive Librarian Suzanne Brosnan expressed the library's pride in supporting such a meaningful journey. Copies of the finished book are now available to borrow at all Kildare library branches and are being distributed to primary schools throughout the Celbridge community.
