The Department of Justice has confirmed the successful conclusion of a deportation operation involving forty-three Georgian nationals. The group, which included thirty-three men, seven women, and a family with three minors, departed Dublin Airport on Sunday afternoon and arrived in Tbilisi that evening. This mission represents the sixth charter flight organised by the State this year to enforce immigration regulations.
Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan emphasised that these operations are vital for maintaining a robust, rules-based immigration framework. He noted that while the vast majority of Georgian residents continue to make positive contributions to Irish society, the State must ensure that legal pathways are respected. The Minister also highlighted the availability of a voluntary return programme for those without legal status, which remains the preferred avenue for individuals whose applications have been refused or withdrawn.
Minister of State Colm Brophy acknowledged the complexity of these procedures, thanking both departmental officials and An Garda Síochána for their professional conduct. The flight was supported by medical personnel, an interpreter, and an independent human rights observer to ensure the process was handled appropriately. The total cost for chartering the aircraft amounted to €225,575 before VAT, and the Department has confirmed that further operations are scheduled to take place throughout 2026.
