The Department of Rural and Community Development has unveiled the 2026 Town and Village Renewal Scheme, a strategic programme aimed at fostering social and economic regeneration across local areas. By prioritising sustainable employment and the enhancement of streetscapes, the scheme seeks to transform derelict buildings into vibrant, multi-purpose community assets. A notable addition this year is the pilot urban town initiative, which specifically targets towns situated within larger metropolitan regions.
Community groups, local businesses, and relevant stakeholders are encouraged to submit project proposals under the Main Scheme or the Project Development Measure. Successful applicants may secure funding covering up to 90% of total project costs. The council will evaluate all submissions before selecting specific proposals for detailed development and subsequent presentation to the Department for final approval.
Interested parties can access the official Expression of Interest forms through the South Dublin County Council website. Completed applications must be returned via email to [email protected] or posted to the Town and Village Renewal Scheme department at County Hall, Tallaght, Dublin 24. Please note that the final deadline for all submissions is 5pm on Friday, 20 November 2026, and late applications will not be accepted.
