The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage convened to deliberate on the draft Sustainable Rural and Gaeltacht Housing National Planning Statement with Minister of State for Local Government and Planning, John Cummins TD. Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Micheál Carrigy noted that the updated framework replaces the long-standing 2005 guidelines to establish a more consistent national approach for rural housing development.
The discussions focused on supporting sustainable rural communities, standardising housing need assessments, and reducing discrepancies between local authorities.
