A nationwide public awareness campaign has driven a fourfold rise in applications for the Mother and Baby Institutions Payment Scheme, offering much-needed support to survivors. Department figures show an additional 202 people applied following the launch, shifting the weekly average from 14 up to 58 applications. This momentum brings total applicants to nearly 7,600, with upwards of 5,500 payments already successfully processed.
Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley welcomed the strong public response, emphasising that privacy and guidance remain central to the initiative. Officials noted that applicants are not required to provide exhaustive institutional records or detailed personal accounts, easing the burden on those coming forward. The 12-week promotional drive utilises print, broadcast, and digital platforms to reach communities nationwide.
The scheme remains open for submissions until March 2029, allowing ample time for individuals to consider their options and seek guidance.
