Fingal is set for a remarkable transformation after securing a multi-million euro injection from the Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund. Announced by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne TD, the funding forms part of a nationwide strategy to breathe new life into local communities and combat dereliction. Mayor Tony Murphy welcomed the allocation as one of the largest single awards in the country, highlighting the council's ongoing commitment to modernising urban spaces.
A significant portion of the package, totalling €20.1 million, is earmarked for three shovel-ready initiatives scheduled to commence construction within the next twelve months. The ambitious Swords Cultural Quarter will receive €7.5 million, while Malahide's New Street pedestrianisation project is backed by €7 million. Additionally, €5.6 million has been secured for improvements along Skerries Harbour Road, ensuring swift progress towards vibrant, pedestrian-friendly environments.
Chief Executive AnnMarie Farrelly noted that the injection will enable the local authority to transition rapidly into the delivery phase for these key schemes. Further support has also been granted for preliminary studies, including funding for the Swords Main Street Transformation and masterplans for Clonsilla and Skerries town centres.
