Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow wind warning for County Cavan in anticipation of Storm Boelo, which will be in effect from 6pm on Saturday, 24 October until 12 noon on Sunday, 25 October. Authorities warn that the storm could bring dangerous travel conditions, disruption to services, flash flooding, damage to power lines, fallen trees, and widespread flooding.
Householders are advised to secure large outdoor items such as lawn furniture or trampolines to prevent them from being blown away. Power outages may occur, and the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) urges the public to avoid any fallen cables and report emergencies to ESB Emergency Services at 1800 372 999. Gas Networks Ireland’s emergency line is 1800 20 50 50. It is also recommended to charge all devices, keep torches or candles ready, and check on isolated or vulnerable neighbours.
For those travelling, the Road Safety Authority stresses the importance of reconsidering journeys and exercising caution on the roads. Drivers should reduce speed, maintain a greater braking distance, and be alert to spray from larger vehicles that can reduce visibility. Flooded roads are extremely dangerous, and motorists must never attempt to drive through them. Pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists are urged to wear high-visibility clothing and take extra care in windy conditions. Cavan County Council will deploy crews early on Sunday to manage emergencies, with an out-of-hours number available at 087 611 8116. In life-threatening situations, dial 999 or 112 immediately.
