Young man dies following single vehicle crash in Limerick
A tragic collision in the early hours of Sunday morning has claimed the life of a driver in Adare. Two other passengers remain under medical care at University Hospital Limerick following the severe impact on the N21.

Gardaí have launched an investigation into a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N21 at Cummeen, near Adare, Co. Limerick. The incident, which involved a single vehicle striking a tree, took place at approximately 2:40am on Sunday, 20th September 2026. Emergency services attended the scene, but the driver, a man in his 20s, was pronounced deceased. His remains were subsequently transported to University Hospital Limerick, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
Two other passengers who were travelling in the vehicle, a man in his 20s and an adult teenager, were also taken to University Hospital Limerick for urgent medical treatment. Authorities have confirmed that the man in his 20s remains in a critical condition, while the second passenger sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The stretch of road was closed for a period to allow for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with local traffic diversions managed by personnel on the ground.
Investigating officers are now appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward with information. Specifically, Gardaí are requesting that any road users who were travelling along the N21 between 2:15am and 2:45am on Sunday morning, and who may possess dash-cam or other video footage, make this available to the authorities.
